AOGQ - Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Quebec

The AOGQ set up a Board of Directors, which is now composed of nineteen members elected by their peers from seven different districts. The Board of Directors elect an Executive Committee formed of a President, the Past President or President elect, two Vice Presidents, a Secretary and Treasurer.

The Board of Directors nominates as well specific committees to help it carry out its mandate with competency and expertise. These Committees are the Ultrasound, the Endoscopy, the Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology, the Oncology and the Perinatalogy Committees. Each of them studies a particular or specialized area of the practice of obstetrics/gynecology and whose efforts help their profession advance.

The Newsletter (GYNOBILIS) and Web site Committee is an important communication tool for our members and the community. It has recently issued a special edition aiming to stimulate the recruitment in medical specialties and is also responsible for the reconstruction of our Web site that is now available to you.

Our Association assisted by its Medical Manpower Committee is constantly involved in recruitment of new members and also organizes replacement for staff shortage in certain hospitals.

Practice of Obstetrics by midwives is a new reality and it gave our association the opportunity to create the Midwifery Committee, which defines the relationship between doctors and midwives and provides the necessary communication channels in order to maintain a harmonious and safe obstetrical practice for Quebec women.

After 40 years, the AOGQ keeps representing its members as a professional syndicate, encouraging research in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology. The Continuing Medical Education Committee organizes an annual convention and is responsible for many postgraduate courses and symposiums.

The other Association's Committees are:

  • Delegates to the FMSQ (Federation of Medical Specialists of Quebec)
  • Nominations Committee
  • Bylaws Committee
  • Media and Public Relations Committee
  • Tariffs (fees)

Actually, the AOGQ has over 400 active members practicing in Quebec and 41% of whom are women. About a hundred residents are annually in training to become obstetricians and gynecologists in the four Medical Universities of the Province. In addition, some of our members practicing outside of Quebec and retired doctors are still considered members of our association.
